Galveston Bay Foundation: A Legacy of Love and Land Conservation
Brazoria County — June 15, 2025 — The Galveston Bay Foundation is pleased to announce that it has recently permanently conserved 234 acres along Austin Bayou in Brazoria County that will be known as the Bayou Oaks Conservation Area. The property contains over a mile of frontage along Austin Bayou, riparian wetlands, hardwood forests, and allows opportunities for wetland and coastal prairie restoration.
The acquisition was funded in whole by GBF donors Roger and Patricia Byford. The Byfords recognize the importance of conserving undeveloped habitat along the Texas coast and wanted to make a special gift in memory of their grandchildren. GBF will now engage in a habitat restoration process that will enhance the conservation values and scenic beauty of the Bayou Oaks Conservation Area. This land will forever stand as a legacy and a place of remembrance.
“We are honored to conserve this land on behalf of the Byfords and their grandchildren,” said Bob Stokes, President of Galveston Bay Foundation. “This generous donation will go towards preserving and restoring a special place. The land will help strengthen climate resilience, preserve biodiversity, provide habitat for wildlife, and ensure open space that will remain untouched by development.”
