We love our volunteers! They’re the heart and soul of the Galveston Bay Foundation, and they’re a vital part of the ongoing success of the projects that support the Galveston Bay estuarine system. By volunteering with the Galveston Bay Foundation, you gain valuable field training and experience in environmental conservation and restoration, earn volunteer credit, satisfy employer volunteer opportunities, and increase your knowledge of Galveston Bay. Take a look at just some of our available volunteer opportunities.
Water Monitoring Team
Conduct regular water sampling around Galveston Bay and perform chemical analyses, physical testing, and field observations.
Help teach students and families about the importance of the Bay and the environmental problems that affect it.
Lend a hand around our office with filing, shredding, data entry, supply organization and inventory, and other similar tasks.
Dolphin Research Field Assistant
Assist with field surveys of the bottlenose dolphins that reside in Galveston Bay through our partnership with the Environmental Institute of Houston.
Turtle Care (Yes, really!)
Help with basic care of our animal ambassador, Pear the diamondback terrapin, by helping with feeding, water changes, cleaning, and other care tasks as needed.
Currently, we don’t have any regularly occurring volunteer opportunities, but we hope to begin regularly scheduling volunteer opportunities once we move to our new location in Kemah.
When you sign up for our volunteer alerts (above!), you’ll receive emails about volunteering for upcoming events and additional opportunities such as water monitoring and environmental educator training.
We do offer a number of options that are well-suited for corporate volunteers or groups, such as marsh plantings, oyster reef restoration, or shoreline cleanup. Reach out to our Community Programs Manager directly at email@example.com or by phone at (281) 332-3381 x207 to find out which options will be available.
We do! For the best experience for student groups, we recommend our Students in Action program, though we can also arrange other environmental service projects on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the Director of Education at firstname.lastname@example.org or the Community Programs Manager at email@example.com for more information.
There are plenty of options for kids who are out of school, including administrative needs—paper shredding, filing, cleaning and stocking equipment—and caring for Pear, our in-office ambassador (who’s also a turtle). Contact our Community Programs Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to have your kids help at our office in the summer.
Don’t worry, we may not have sent an e-mail yet! We typically send a volunteer e-mail every two months. If you suspect that an error is at fault, check your security settings to make sure our e-mails are marked as “safe,” or try signing up for our volunteer list again in case your original submission had a typo.
