Galveston Bay Foundation’s Heron Society is our premier giving society for generous individuals or couples who support our operations and programs through annual contributions of $1,000 or more.

We invite you to join an exceptional group of community leaders and volunteer champions whose generosity is leading the way to a Bay brimming with vitality and contributing to the community in every possible way.

The Heron Society recognizes these individuals for their outstanding leadership and serves as a platform to inspire others to also take action that protects the Bay and its watershed for future generations. Galveston Bay Foundation recognizes individuals and households as Heron Society members in recognition of their cumulative, annual personal gifts, and commitments of $1,000 or more each year.

Heron Society members receive special invitations to exclusive Galveston Bay Foundation events and are offered opportunities to grow their involvement and understanding in the work of Galveston Bay Foundation. Please join us!

Your Giving Impact

The work of Galveston Bay Foundation and the health of Galveston Bay are transformed by the generosity of our Heron Society members. Since the giving club was launched in 2017, Heron Society members have collectively given over $2.1 million to support and advance our operations and programs.

As a Heron Society member your annual support enables Galveston Bay Foundation to go beyond maintaining our programs to strategically evaluating, exploring and expanding our work within the five counties that touch Galveston Bay. Heron Society members’ giving has supported and leveraged other funding that has resulted in accomplishments including:

  • Permanent protection of over 5,000 acres of conserved prairie, wetland, and forest habitat
  • Return of over 400,000 pounds of oyster shell to Dickinson Bay for reef restoration
  • Restoration of the forest, prairie and wetland shoreline on our 30-acre Kemah property
  • Establishment and expansion of a marine debris monitoring program
  • Deployment of staff to collect and analyze water samples after the 2019 ITC industrial fire
  • Restoration of sea grass and bird habitat islands in West Bay and Moses Lake
  • Publication of 3 scientific research papers about Galveston Bay dolphins

Ways to Give

We accept many types of donations to enable our members to give the way that works best for you and your household.

Monthly donations of $100

Gifts of stock

In lieu of a cash donation, you can direct shares of highly appreciated stocks to Galveston Bay Foundation. Reduce your tax liability and maintain your stock portfolio strength while leveraging your investments for charitable giving. For information and to initiate a stock gift, please contact Dawn Asbury at dasbury@galvbay.org or (832) 536-2278.

Online giving

Credit card donations through our secure online portal enable you to quickly and easily support Galveston Bay Foundation. You can also opt to cover the processing fees associated with your transaction so 100% of your gift goes towards our programs. You can opt to make a one-time donation, or to make a monthly recurring gift of $100 or more so you never forget to renew!

Donor Advised Funds

You can recommend or select Galveston Bay Foundation as an organization to support by contacting your advisor at your DAF sponsoring organization. Galveston Bay Foundation’s tax ID: 76-0279876

Direct Funds Transfer (ACH/EFT)

You can donate directly to Galveston Bay Foundation’s account from your account with bank assistance. For information about processes and account numbers, please contact Dawn Asbury at dasbury@galvbay.org or (832) 536-2278.

IRA Mandatory Distributions

If you are 72 years of age (or 70 ½ if you were born before July 1, 1949), you can donate by maximizing your Required Minimum Distribution from your IRA account. Eligible donors can transfer up to $100,000 annually as a tax-free gift to the Foundation. Galveston Bay Foundation’s tax ID: 76-0279876
