Danielle Riberio from Great.com interviewed the Galveston Bay Foundation as part of their ‘Great.com Talks With…’ podcast. This series is an antidote to negative news stories that aims to shed light on organizations and experts whose work is making a positive impact on the world.

Over the years, many habitats, from coastal marshes to oyster reefs, around the Galveston Bay have been lost. In this episode, Danielle talked with Bob Stokes, President of the Galveston Bay Foundation.

Fighting For A Healthy Galveston Bay

Bob says that all users of Galveston Bay must work together to create a healthy Bay system. From recreational users to commercial users, the Galveston Bay Foundation works with all community members and discusses solutions that will benefit all. But most importantly, the aim is to preserve the natural resources, beauty, and commercial effectiveness of the Bay.

To this day, Galveston Bay remains at serious risk. Over the years, the bay has lost 80,000 acres of freshwater wetlands and 8,000 acres of saltwater wetlands. This makes the work of the foundation imperative to preserving and enhancing Galveston Bay as a healthy and productive place for generations to come.

About Great.com

Great.com is an organization aimed at solving the world’s most dire problem — global climate change. Starting in New Jersey, their mission is to take money from an otherwise harmful and greedy industry (online casinos) and move it towards a positive and good cause (solving the climate crisis). In addition to directly donating 100% of the revenue they earn in the casino industry, they also launch and manage fundraising campaigns to persuade casino entrepreneurs to donate. So far, they’ve generated over $2 million to climate research through their own donations and proceeds from their fundraising initiatives.
