Moody Gardens X Galveston Bay Foundation Volunteer Event

We are working with Moody Gardens on a project to mitigate shoreline erosion at the golf course. Using shells we’ve collected through our Oyster Shell Recycling Program, we are creating oyster shell bags. These bags are made of a mesh material and will be eventually taken to the golf course and placed in the water along the shoreline.
For this project, we will need to make about 2,000 bags, each about 20” x 11” in size. The completed bags will weigh approximately 30 pounds so there may be some heavy lifting involved.
We are looking for volunteers to help with this project and are hosting seven work days in September to create the bags. Each volunteer shift will be from 9am to 12pm, in the West Parking Lot of Moody Gardens. We will have a tent set for shade and all provided supplies, including gloves.
Volunteers need to wear closed-toe shoes and clothes they don’t mind getting dirty. Plan to bring a refillable water bottle, hat, and sunscreen. We will provide water to refill bottles.
