Oysters, Water, and Boaters: GBF’s Summer Kickoff event

Registration for this event closes at 5pm on Friday, May 18th!

How Clean Are Galveston Bay’s Waters? What is being done to protect them? What can I do to help? Join GBF as we tackle these questions and enjoy happy hour at Tommy’s Restaurant.

Summer is around the corner! And that means swimming, boating, fishing, and fish-frys, all of which depend on a healthy Galveston Bay. Galveston Bay Foundation works to ensure that our Bay remains fishable and swimmable, both this summer and for many seasons to come. Join GBF to learn more about this work, current water quality findings for Galveston Bay, and what you can do to help maintain a safe and healthy Bay.

Date: Monday, May 21st
Time: 5:30 – 7pm
Location: Tommy’s Restaurant and Oyster Bar

Space is limited, click here to register, or email waterquality@galvbay.org. RSVP is required to attend.

Did you know that much of Galveston Bay is considered impaired for shellfish harvesting due to high levels of fecal bacteria? GBF has developed the Galveston Bay Bacteria Reduction Plan to address the sources of these contaminants. At this event, GBF will share the steps laid out in this plan, and provide an overview of current water quality findings, both currently and over time.

This event is funded by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the Gulf Research Program of the National Academy of Sciences, the US Environmental Protection Agency, and the Galveston Bay Estuary Program.
