Trash Bash
Trash Bash is the largest water education conservation event in the state of Texas. Simultaneous cleanups are coordinated throughout the Houston Metro Area on the last Saturday of March each year. Thousands of volunteers spend the morning cleaning up our waterways! The Galveston Bay Foundation now coordinates the Armand Bayou site.
Trash Bash 2012
Thank you to all those that came out to the Armand Bayou site for Trash Bash 2012 on Saturday, March 31st! We had 645 land based volunteers helping to clean up trash at parks and along trails and roadways in the Armand Bayou watershed, as well as103 kayakers/canoers collecting trash from their personal watercraft. Volunteers collected 7,480 pounds of trash, 25 tires, and 2,440 pounds of reusuable or recyclable materials. 21.24 miles of lakes, rivers, or creeks were cleaned up by on-the-water volunteers, and 21.66 miles of land (roadways, trails, parks, and drainage channels within the Armand Bayou watershed) were cleaned by land-based volunteers.
A few photos from the event have been posted on our Facebook page.

An extensive on-the-water effort took place across Armand Bayou and its tributaries--with 100 paddlers cleaned up Armand Bayou, Horsepen Bayou, Big Island Slough, and Mud Lake. Hundreds of land-based volunteers also had a major role in picking up litter alongside roads, parks, drainage channels, and trails within Armand Bayou watershed. In all, 850 volunteers collected over 600 bags of trash and over 250 bags of recyclable items! Thank you volunteers for cleaning up Armand Bayou and our bay area!
Trash Bash 2010 at Sims Bayou
On March 27, 2010, 150 Galveston Bay Foundation volunteers cleaned Sims Bayou for the annual Trash Bash event. Starting from Glenbrook Park, Reveille Park, and Sims Woods, GBF volunteers cleaned 4 miles of shoreline collecting more than 90 bags of trash (for over 1,800 pounds of trash)! Additionally this year, GBF made a substantial effort to collect aluminum cans and plastic bottles for recycling; volunteers collected 17 bags of recyclables! After the cleanup, volunteers enjoyed lunch, door prizes, and the drumming of Angel Quesada and some special helpers at Glenbrook Park. Thank you to all the volunteers who came out!
