Rigs'n Reefs Gala
The Rigs’N Reefs Gala is GBF’s largest fundraiser. Trustees, members, sponsors, friends and supporters gather every year for a night of memorable celebration. This year on November 2, 2007, GBF celebrated 20 years of conservation through partnership.
The festive occasion took place at the Petroleum Club in downtown Houston where guests dined on filet mignon, danced to the music of Grady Gaines and the Texas Upsetters, and bid on an array of silent auction and big board items.
Highlights of the night included the announcement of the Bay Citizen of the Year and Bay Business of the Year awards. Cynthia Pickett-Stevenson was recognized as this year’s Bay Citizen of the Year Award for her outstanding leadership and support. Among Cynthia’s extensive list of activities on behalf of GBF are seven years of service on the Executive Committee and two years of leadership as the Chair of the Board of Trustees. GBF also recognized Anheuser-Busch, Inc. Houston, Texas as the Bay Business of the Year. GBF’s Bay Business of the Year Award highlights business users of Galveston Bay who use Galveston Bay in a sustainable fashion. The Anheuser-Busch, Inc. Houston brewery has initiated multiple projects and programs to improve their environmental compliance and minimize their footprint on Galveston Bay and the local environment. Their efforts have resulted in the reduction of solid waste, electrical usage, air emissions, sewer loadings, and water usage and an increase in recycling.
This year’s Gala was a success due to the hard work of the Gala chairs, Catherine and Daniel Layton, and committee members: Stephanie Binion, Roxanna Brom, Marianne Ibrahim, Melinda Kilpatrick, Melissa King, Vanessa Mintzer, Cynthia Pickett-Stevenson, Priscilla Pickett, Dianne Raydon, Erik Saenz, Bob Stokes, Beverly Van Zandt, and Emily Watkins. GBF wants to thank the committee, Gala attendees, and sponsors and donors for their generous support of this celebration! Funds raised at the annual Gala are imperative to the success of GBF’s programs.
