2008 Clean Up Around the Bay
In 2008, Bike Around the Bay was cancelled because of the conditions resulting from hurricane Ike. In lieu of the bike ride, riders and volunteers joined efforts for the Clean Up Around the Bay Ike recovery event.
More than 350 dedicated and hard-working volunteers helped clear hurricane debris at Galveston Island State Park, Virginia Point Peninsula Preserve, and the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge on October 18 and 19, and November 8 and 22. GBF wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the riders and volunteers who participated in the Clean Up Around the Bay! GBF also wants to thank CenterPoint Energy and KBR for sponsoring the event!
Thank you very much for helping restore Galveston Bay!

2007 Lyondell Bike Around the Bay
Over 400 riders participated in the first Lyondell Bike Around the Bay! On the morning of October 20th, 2007, enthusiastic riders gathered at Fort Anahuac Park to begin their two day trek around Galveston Bay. Day 1 took the riders from Anahuac, through Chambers County, and east towards High Island. The final leg of the day included a beautiful ride on the Bolivar Ferry and travel through historic Galveston. The overnight stay at Moody Gardens was a relaxing and fun-filled break. On Day 2 riders were escorted on the Galveston causeway and continued the route through Texas City, Bacliff, Kemah, Seabrook, and La Porte. Riders experienced amazing views while passing the Texas City Dike and cruising on top of the Fred Hartman Bridge. Riders, volunteers, and guests celebrated at the Houston Raceway Park finish.
This wonderful ride would not have been possible without the dedication and effort of the many volunteers who worked for months to coordinate this challenging event. Volunteer coordinated breakpoints provided riders with needed rest and supplies on both days. Support volunteers included motorcycle marshalls, SAG, medical and emergency, communication, security, ride logistics, bike repair, and supply teams. The Galveston Bay Foundation extends much appreciation to the steering committee members, sponsors, support teams, breakpoint teams, and start and finish volunteers that worked to assure the riders had a safe and enjoyable experience.
