2016 Guardian of the Bay Award Luncheon
The Galveston Bay Foundation’s September 27, 2016 Guardian of the Bay Award Luncheon honored the Houston Yacht Club, Lakewood Yacht Club, and Texas Corinthian Yacht Club along with Jim Lester, PhD and the Port of Houston Authority, for their commitment to preserving and protecting the natural resources of Galveston Bay. Over 600 luncheon guests were privileged to enjoy keynote remarks by Houston Zoo CEO, Lee C. Ehmke, who spoke about the Zoo’s extensive conservation efforts, both globally and closer to home. He praised the Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) for its role in protecting Galveston Bay and expressed enthusiasm for the Zoo’s growing participation with GBF as one of its local partners. Master of Ceremonies Frank Billingsley, Chief Meteorologist with KPRC Local2, commented on the importance of protecting this important natural resource and encouraged luncheon guests to support GBF.
GBF President Bob Stokes recognized luncheon chairs, Shawn and Bill Jackson, for their contribution to the record-breaking success of this year’s event which raised over $350,000. GBF wishes to give special thanks to Guardian Sponsors Kirby Corporation and Kathrine G. McGovern/McGovern Foundation. The money raised will directly benefit habitat restoration and protection in Galveston Bay.
